This Classic Rock Record Is Made Completely of Concrete

For the hipster who is too cool for vinyl.

To demonstrate the precision of ultra-high-performance concrete (UHPC), Ricardo Kocadag crafted a record of (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction out of the material, and it’s good enough that it works on an ordinary turntable.

Kocadag claims this is the first concrete record, but as Steve Dent of Engadget points out, cruder concrete records were made before. UHPC, meanwhile, is a steel fiber-reinforced cement composite used in skyscrapers and large bridges that require a material with high load-bearing properties. The sound quality is pretty good as you can see in this video from German radio station BLN.FM

Look out, vinyl.

Shopping is NOT Buying!

Shopping

Being a foodie, my breakfast preparation tends to be extremely elaborate. A lot of what I cook depends on what I feel like eating that morning. Most of these dishes have ingredients which would not feature on a monthly grocery list: penne pasta, sriracha sauce and black olives, for example. Now I could wake up in the morning, shop for the ingredients online and wait a couple of hours for delivery, or simply pick them up while I’m on my morning jog. But does this mean I’ll prefer to stand in long queues in the grocery shop all the time? I suppose not! This is precisely why multiple retail formats not only co-exist but are all growing as well. Each of them address a different need.
